About Africa Morocco Link
Africa Morocco Link, AML for short, is a Moroccan ferry company based in Tanger. It was founded in 2016 by the Bank of Africa as majority owner and the Greek Attica Group; on 17 June 2016 it began operating the Tanger Med - Algeciras line. Ownership changed in 2024: in April, Swedish Stena Line took over Attica's shares and has held 49 percent since then, and shortly afterwards the Bank of Africa sold its shares to the Moroccan bus company CTM, which now holds 51 percent. Stena Line runs day-to-day operations, giving it its first stake outside Europe through AML.
Ships and fleet
AML operates both conventional ferries and fast ferries. The fleet includes the Morocco Star and the Morocco Sun with room for around 935 and 1,000 passengers respectively, plus the Stena Europe chartered from Stena Line with around 1,400 passengers. For the fast ferry line to Tarifa, the company deploys the Morocco Express 1 and the chartered HSC Maria Dolores.
Routes to Morocco
The main line is Algeciras - Tanger Med across the Strait of Gibraltar, where AML sails round the clock alongside Baleària, FRS and Naviera Armas; the crossing takes up to two hours with AML. Since 4 June 2024, the fast ferry Tarifa - Tanger Ville has connected Andalusia directly with Tanger's city port. Seasonally, AML also operates the overnight ferry Almería - Nador to eastern Morocco. Check-in, vehicle and pet
The binding check-in times are shown on your ticket; because of the passport and customs checks on the Morocco routes, you should arrive at the port well ahead of time if travelling with a vehicle, more so than on foot. You need a valid passport for Morocco, an ID card is not enough. Cars, motorbikes and motorhomes travel on all routes, and you give the dimensions when booking.
