Getting to the Terminal in Genoa
GNV ferries depart from Genoa's ferry terminal, Piazzale dei Traghetti Iqbal Masih; the ticket office is at Piazzale Traghetti Iqbal Masih 5. By car, you can reach the terminal via the A7 (Genova Ovest exit), A10 (Genova Aeroporto), A12 (Genova Est) and A26 motorways, all signposted to the ferry port.
If you are travelling without a vehicle, the terminal is well connected: it is just a short walk from Genova Piazza Principe railway station and reachable by city bus line 20. From Cristoforo Colombo Airport it is around 5 kilometres.
Check-in and Documents
Because Morocco is outside the Schengen Area, GNV closes check-in for this route 4 hours before departure - for passengers with and without a vehicle alike. Especially in peak season, allow yourself plenty of buffer time. To enter Morocco you need a valid passport; at the terminal you present a printout of your ID and ticket and receive your boarding pass in return. In Tanger Med, check-in for the return crossing opens 9 hours beforehand and also closes 4 hours before departure.
On Board
Since the crossing takes more than two days, GNV's ferries are extensively equipped. You can choose between inside and outside cabins, suites, reclining seats and deck seating. On board there is a restaurant, a self-service café, a bar and a pizzeria; on the Morocco route, GNV also offers guaranteed halal catering. Wi-Fi, an onboard shop and entertainment options are available too.
Vehicles and Pets
You can bring a car, motorcycle or motorhome; provide the vehicle's details and dimensions when booking, and keep the vehicle documents ready at check-in. Once your car is parked on the garage deck, you will not be able to access it again during the crossing, so take everything you need into your cabin. Pets can travel too: GNV keeps dedicated pet cabins on this route.
Arrival in Tanger Med and Onward Travel
The port of Tanger Med lies around 40 kilometres east of Tangier, in the Oued Rmel area. Regular shuttles and scheduled buses connect the port to Tangier city centre and Ibn Battuta Airport, and taxis wait right at the terminal. With your own vehicle, you take the A4 motorway onto Morocco's main road network.
Tickets and Fares
GNV offers the crossing with fare options of varying flexibility: the more flexible options carry no cancellation fee up to 14 days before departure, while cheaper advance-purchase fares come with restricted rebooking and changes.
